Vol Profile - Donte' Stallworth
September 12, 2001 | Football
Vol Profile: What was your biggest shock coming from California to Tennessee?
Stallworth:"The biggest shock was seeing a lot of orange, I've never a lot of one certain color before, and a lot of orange was going on out here. Everyone is real into Tennessee football and I think that's one thing that drew me here."
Vol Profile: What kind of goals have you set for yourself this season?
Stallworth: "I've just looked at the some of the other guys their senior years, actually I'm still only a junior, but looking at some of the other guys and their senior years, and seeing some of the numbers that they've put up and I'd like to post similar numbers like somewhere around 12 or 13 touchdowns, something like that.
Vol Profile: As an underclassman what player did you look up to?
Stallworth: "When I came here my true freshmen year, of course the guys to look up to were Peerless (Price) and Cedrick (Wilson), those were the guys who helped me out a lot, especially Cedrick he helped me out a lot as far as learning the plays and being comfortable with the system."
Vol Profile: Now that you are becoming one of the upperclassman do you feel comfortable assuming that kind of role?
Stallworth: "Yes I do, and I can kind of notice some of the younger guys kinds are looking up to the older guys. When we go out there to practice, they try to look for things to do and if they don't know they can feel free to ask us."
Vol Profile: Who or what do you look to for motivation?
Stallworth: "There are a few things I look to for motivation, number one is God, and I always try to put God first in everything I do. The second thing I look to is my mom, I always want to make my mom proud in everything I do whether it's academics or athletics."
Vol Profile: Do you think it's important to have a good off the field relationship with the quarterback?
Stallworth: "Yes I think it is, when you get a good off the field relationship
with the quarterback then you can bring that relationship on the field, and
when you get out there you are making plays for each other."
Vol Profile: How would you describe your relationship with Clausen?
Stallworth: "I think we are pretty close. Right now we're suite mates in the dorm, and I think we have an extra little thing with both of us being from California, and we both know how things are coming from California, and I think we kind of bonded like that before he even got here."
Vol Profile: What's your favorite thing about UT?
Stallworth: "I just like the facilities we have here. We have some of the best facilities in the nation, and they can get you prepared for a good season, and we have a hard conference schedule and a hard schedule overall so I think that our facilities really help us get ready for the season."
Vol Profile: Do you think this year's schedule will act motivational factor for the team?
Stallworth: "The schedule will have a lot of effect on what we are going to do this year, because we have a lot of teams that are going to be pressing us hard. We know that we have non-conference games like Notre Dame and Syracuse, along with a couple of other teams that are really going to press us this year for any game.
Vol Profile: What are you outside interests?
Stallworth: "I like to go to the movies, that's really about it, I'm pretty much a boring person. I don't do much off the field. I love to listen to music. Well pretty much just listening to music and watching movies and hanging out with my friends.
Vol Profile: Do you have a favorite music artist?
Stallworth: "I have a couple of them, DMX and Tupac are pretty much my two favorites, and then a few others like JZ and a couple of other guys."
Vol Profile: Do you have a favorite actor?
Stallworth: "My favorite actor has got to be Chris Tucker, he's a funny guy."
'Vol Profile: If there were anything you could let people know about you, what would it be?
Stallworth: "I'm a nice person, and pretty easy to get along with. I'm not really a stubborn guy or a selfish person or anything like that."
Vol Profile: Do you have any pregame rituals?
Stallworth: "I pretty much go through the same thing, which is when I get in there I always look through the program first and then after that I kind of go into this little mode where I'm listening to my music, gospel and rap, if you can imagine that. I pretty much to do that, then I try to go off on my own before we actually start and try to stay off on my own for about 10 minutes just to rethink the game plan and what I'm trying to do for the game."
Vol Profile: Twenty years from now when people look back, what would you like to be remembered for during you UT career?
Stallworth: I'd like to be remembered for a person that came out and gave his all on every play, and just a nice person who wanted to do everything right.
