Skinns Helps Lead England to Home Internationals Championship

LINCOLNSHIRE, England--University of Tennessee freshman golfer David Skinns helped lead his country of England to the 2001 Home Internationals championship, being played at Woodhall Spa. The tournament was held over three days from Sept. 12-14.
The tournament consisted of the top 10 amatuers from England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. Each country competed against one another over the three day tournament.
On the first day of competition, Skinns and his fellow Englishmen competed against rival Scotland, coming out victorious 11 1/2-3 1/2. During the match, Skinns won his singles match, while him and foursome Partner, Paul Bradshaw tied with the opposing players from Scotland.
Day two produced a tie between England and Wales at 7 1/2 a piece. Skinns and foursome partner Gary Wolstenholme defeated the Welsh in their match, but Skinns came up on the losing end in his singles match.
The final day of the tournament saw England defeat Ireland 9-6. Skinns was again victorious in his singles match, and he and Wolstenholme took a draw during foursome play.
England finished with a record of 2-0-1 for 2 1/2 points, which was good enough to regain the Raymond Trophy. Scotland finished behind England with two points. Skinns finished with an individual record of 2-1.
Skinns will rejoin the Vols this weekend, as they prepare for the Inverness Intercollegiate in Toledo, Ohio from Sept. 17-18.
