Knoxville, Tenn. -- Walter Sevilla went 2-for-4 with a double and a triple as the Tennessee Volunteers won their seventh consecutive non-conference game with a 6-1 victory over the East Tennessee State Buccaneers at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
Brian St. Jean (2-1), who picked up the win in his second start, gave the Bucs their only run in the second when he issued four walks, the last coming with the bases loaded. He went on to work seven innings, giving up five hits while striking out five.
The loss was the seventh consecutive for East Tennessee State which fell to 7-19. Brandon Cross had two of the Bucs six hits.
Tennessee (15-17) drew first blood in the bottom of the first as it grabbed a 2-0 lead on a Sevilla double that plated Nick Crowe who led off with a first-pitch single. Sevilla moved to third on a ground out and later scored on a passed ball.
The Vols padded their lead to 4-1 in the sixth as Sevilla led off with a triple and scored on Matt Sternberg's sacrifice bunt. Hal Bibee, who also had two hits, then doubled over the center fielder's head and plated the fourth run on Chad LeGate's bloop single to right.
Two more insurance runs in the eighth on a Dennis Gomez single and the second Buc error made the final 6-1.
Matt Hensley (0-2) took the loss as he was lifted after three innings.
Caleb Moore was touched for two runs on four hits in 2 2/3 innings, while Trevor Smith tossed a scoreless 1 1/3 innings. Donnie Sharp worked the eighth, giving up the final two runs.
Infielder Rob Fitzgerald made his debut on the mound for Tennessee in the eighth, while Jeffery Terrell closed out the game in the ninth.
Tennessee plays host to the Kentucky Wildcats (12-15, 2-7 SEC) in a three-game series this weekend, Apr. 5-7. Game times are 7 p.m., 4 p.m. and 2 p.m. ET.
