Andre Patterson, a transfer from UCLA, has enrolled at the University Tennessee and began attending classes this afternoon head basketball coach Buzz Peterson announced.
"We are delighted that Andre chose to be a part of our program," Peterson said. "Coming out of high school he was one of the top recruits in the nation. The success that Jemere (Hendrix) and Scooter (McFadgon) had in the class room while sitting out last year as transfers really encouraged us to take someone like Andre."
Patterson, a 6-foot-7, 197-pound forward, averaged 7.5 points and a team-high 5.5 rebounds while starting 21 of his 24 games for the Bruins last season. He shot a team-best 60.8 percent from the field and improved his rebounding to 6.2 boards per game in Pac 10 Conference action. A native of Ft. Wayne, Ind., Patterson attended Concordia Lutheran High School for three years before moving to Los Angeles his senior year where he attended Washington Prep.
Patterson will have to sit out the 2003-04 season under NCAA transfer guidelines. He will enter the 2004-05 campaign as a junior.
