August is sure to be an exciting month for the University of Tennessee as five former Vols and one current Vol represent the USA in the Olympics.
We also have former student-athletes representing the Democratic Republic of Congo in the 400 meters from Puerto Rico in the 50 and 100 freestyles and 100 butterfly, and Brazil in the 100 meter backstroke and 400 individual medley. Lady Vols track coach J.J. Clark will also be in Athens with his wife, Jearl Miles-Clark, who is making her fifth Olympic appearance, and his sister, Hazel Clark, who is making her second appearance.
We're pleased to report that the University of Tennessee ranked 14th among NCAA Division I-A schools on the playing fields and courts in the 2003-2004 school year. This was an improvement over the 2002-2003 school year when Tennessee finished 27th.
As another school year begins, soccer, volleyball, cross-country and tennis are getting ready for a new season of competition. The football team is also preparing for their season opener against UNLV Sept. 5. More than 350 former football Lettermen will be in attendance at that game to honor the tradition of Tennessee football.
Last month, we reached an agreement with eSports Partners to outsource our souvenirs at Tennessee Traditions and on volmall.com. We hope you will check them out in mid-August when they reopen with an updated look and new merchandise.
We are grateful for your support of Tennessee athletics. If you have any ideas for the athletics department, feel free to e-mail us at askmike@utk.edu or askjoan@utk.edu.
Expect to win! |
