KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Rusty Ensor (1981-82) capped a three-run third inning for the White Team with a mammoth two-run blast to right field as the White Team went on to claim a 3-0 victory over the Orange Team in the annual Tennessee Alumni Baseball Game Friday night at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. More than 30 former Vols returned to Rocky Top to participate in the festivities, which included a home run contest.
The White Team's big third inning was keyed by a leadoff double by Ryan Case (2000-01), who later scored on an RBI groundout by Larry Fielder (1966-68). Mike McConkey then doubled to set the table for Ensor's heroics.
Other highlights from the alumni game were doubles by Brian Gates (2000-01) and Rob Fitzgerald (2002-05) and basehits by Rick Honeycutt (1973-76) and David Mitchell (1976-77).
Eli Iorg (2004-05) defeated Jordan Czarniecki (2002-03) in the finals of the home run contest, as Iorg's six long balls in the final round bested Czarniecki's two homers. Other home run contest participants were Honeycutt, Fitzgerald and Donnie Ross (1998-99). Iorg and Czarniecki each hit two homers in the preliminary round to advance to the finals.
