With the holiday season in full-swing, the Tennessee athletic department volunteered to support the Lift up America program by donating Ty Beanie Teddy Bears and nonperishable food items to local organizations. The event took place in C3 parking lot on the corner of Lake Loudoun Boulevard and Neyland Drive on Wednesday.
The bear and food donation is part of a nationwide community service effort called "Lift up America." Lift up America joins several corporations with professional and college sports teams to encourage people to lend a helping hand to others in need.
Student athletes, members of the University of Tennessee Athletic Department and representatives from Lift up America were on-site on Wednesday to help distribute the items to each organization. Some of the receiving organizations included, Boys and Girls Clubs, East Tennessee Children's Hospital, Angel Tree, Emerald Youth Foundation, Knox Area Rescue Ministries, Salvation Army, Big Brothers Big Sisters and the News Sentinel Empty Stocking Fund.
The Tennessee Volunteers were proud to be a part of this national effort to celebrate the giving season.
