VOLS GET FIRST WIN OF 2006-07 SEASON

With two individuals in the top three and three in the top 10, the Tennessee Volunteers won their first tournament of the 2006-07 season Sunday at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at the Ridges in Jonesborough, Tenn.
The Vols shot 3 under par in the final round and ended with a tournament scorecard of 294-290-285--869 to edge second-place ETSU by one stroke.
"I am extremely proud of how the team played and competed," head coach Jim Kelson said. "It is a huge win for our program. We can really build on this. This one meant a great deal."
Philip Pettitt's second-place finish paced the Vols. Pettitt carded an even-par 72 to end the day just three strokes out of first place. This marks his second consecutive top-10 finish and the fifth of his career.
Junior Charlie Ford finished tied for third, shooting 1 under par in the final round to end the tournament with a scorecard of 73-71-71--215. His 54-hole total of 215 was his best of the season.
Senior Tino Weiss had his best round of the tournament, a 1-under-par 71, to finish tied for ninth with a 3-over-par 219. Sophomore Chris Paisley, who also shot a 71, jumped 12 spots on the final day to tie for 21st.
John Brannen rounded out the Tennessee lineup. Brannen ended the day in a tie for 42nd after firing a final round 4-over-par 76. Competing as an individual, redshirt freshman James Brannen fired a 3-over-par 75 and finished tied for 69th in his first tournament as a Vol.
ETSU's Rhys Davies fired a final-round 71 to take the individual crown with a 54-hole score of 211. South Carolina's George Bryan IV finished tied for third at 1 under par. North Carolina's Robert Riesen and Alabama's Gator Todd tied for fifth at even par.
ETSU finished one stroke back of UT in second place, with North Carolina, Alabama and Wake Forest rounding out the top five.
Next up for Tennessee is the Isleworth Intercollegiate Oct. 22-24 in Orlando, Fla.
