The seventh-ranked Tennessee men's golf team fired a 5-over-par 293 to find itself in third place after one round at the Isleworth Intercollegiate played Sunday at the Isleworth Golf and Country Club in Windermere, Fla.
Sophomore Chris Paisley and junior Philip Pettitt led the Vols shooting an even-par 72 in the first round to finish tied for 12th. Pettitt recorded four of his five birdies on his last nine holes.
Freshman David Holmes fired a 1-over-par 73 and sits tied for 19th after his first round as a Volunteer.
Junior Charlie Ford was next for Tennessee. Ford shot a 4-over-par 76 and is tied for 51st.
John Brannen rounded out the Volunteer lineup. Brannen shot an 8-over-par 80 to stand in a tie for 79th place.
Georgia holds a one stroke lead over the field, shooting 3-over-par 291. South Carolina is in second, with Tennessee in third. There are three teams tied for fourth at 6 over par.
Florida's Toby Ragland shot an opening round best 69, three shots under par to open a one-stroke lead over five golfers tied for second.
