WEISS FINISHES IN 16TH PLACE AT WORLD AMATEUR TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS

Tennessee men's golfer Tino Weiss fired a final round 69 to finish in a tie for 16th place at the World Amateur Team Championships this past weekend in Stellenbosch, South Africa.
Weiss, a member of the Swiss National Team, finished the tournament with a scorecard of 73-72-70-69--284 for a score of four-under-par. The senior from Bach, Switzerland, improved his score every round while helping the Swiss team finish in a tie for 16th place out of 70 teams.
Ross McGowan a former UT golfer (2001-05) played for his home country of England. McGowan also showed improvement each day, finishing the tournament with a scorecard of 75-72-70-69--286 to finish in a tie for 28th place. England finished in a tie for sixth.
The Netherlands took top honors at the tournament. Canada finished second and the United States finished third.
Weiss and his UT teammates return to action in January when they travel to Tucson, Ariz., for the Ping Arizona Intercollegiate.
