Tennessee men's golf coach Jim Kelson announced today that Robin Wingardh and Justin Walker have signed to play golf at the University of Tennessee beginning in the 2007-08 season.
"This is a special day for Tennessee men's golf. The addition of Robin Wingardh and Justin Walker will make a substantial impact on our program for years to come," Kelson said. "We are very fortunate that these two have decided to join our program. They are both terrific young men that come from superb families. These are definitely the type of individuals that we are looking for here at the University of Tennessee."
Wingardh hails from Morarp, Sweden. He finished eighth at the 2006 World Junior and tied for first at the 2006 European Junior.
"Robin has proven to be a top-five junior player in the world. His finishes at these events indicate that he is ready to play at the top levels of Division I golf," Kelson said.
Walker is from Greenbrier, Tenn., and attends Goodpasture Christian School. Walker was runner-up in the 2006 Tennessee State High School Class A-AA Championships. He also finished first in the Tennessee section of the 2006 Junior PGA Championships. His father, Jeff Walker, lettered as a member of the UT golf team in 1980.
"Justin is a rapidly developing young player that possesses an enormous amount of potential," Kelson said. "His length and power will be an incredible advantage."
