Kingston native Jonathan Mount has been selected to the All-Southeastern Conference second team, as the 2006 SEC Men's Golf Awards were announced Monday.
The sophomore led the Volunteers in almost every category this year. He finished the season with a scoring average of 72.48 while firing 11 rounds of par or better. His scoring average ranks seventh in the SEC.
Mount started off the 2005-06 season with a fourth place finish at the Coca-Cola Tournament of Champions. He fired his season best 54-hole score, a 205, en route to a fourth place finish.
At the Volunteers' next competition, the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate, Mount took home the individual crown -- his first career collegiate win. Held Sept. 26 and 27 in Birmingham, Ala., he shot a scorecard of 70-69-71--210 to finish in a tie for first place. Following up his first place win, Mount finished at 1-under-par and tied for fifth at the Bank of Tennessee/Ridges Intercollegiate. He carded a 73-70-72--215 and would conclude the fall with three top-10 finishes.
Mount had to withdraw from two tournaments this spring due to illness and injury. His top finish came at the Ashworth Invitational held Feb. 27 and 28 in Westlake Village, Calif. He shot a 75-70-74-219 and finished tied for 18th. He ended the regular season with a 35th place finish at the SEC championships, firing a 71-75-73--219.
The Volunteers finished ninth at the SEC Championships and await this month's annoucement of the NCAA tournament field.
