FORMER VOL ROSS MCGOWAN NAMED TO ENGLAND WORLD AMATEUR TEAM

Former Vol Ross McGowan has been named to the England World Amateur team announced Friday.
The Surrey, England, native recently won the English Junior Amateur championship played at Burnham and Berrow last month. He defeated fellow Amateur teammate Oliver Fisher 5 and 4 in the 36-hole final. The title was McGowan's first victory in 2006 after he had finished runner-up in five straight tournaments.
McGowan was also a member of the Great Britain and Ireland team that beat the Continent of Europe for the St. Andrews Trophy in the Czech Republic two weeks ago.
As a Volunteer, McGowan earned a 73.42 career scoring average and eight top-10 finishes. His top finish came as a senior at the Ashworth Collegiate Invitational where he fired a 69-67-72--208 to finish in second.
McGowan will compete against current Tennessee senior Tino Weiss who was named to the Swiss World Amateur Team last month.
Seventy-five teams will compete in the 72-hole tournament to decide the winner of the prestigious Eisenhower Trophy.
The 2006 World Amateur Team Championships will be held in Stellenbosch, South Africa, Oct. 26-29.
