ROSS MCGOWAN ONE STEP CLOSER TO 2007 EUROPEAN TOUR BID

Former Tennessee Vol Ross McGowan has qualified through the first stage of European Tour School. European Tour School is comprised of three stages in which individuals compete for a place on the 2007 European Tour.
The 72-hole stroke-play tournament took place at The Oxfordshire Golf Club in Oxfordshire, England, Sept. 12-15. The par-72, 7,192-yard course was one of three choices competitors had for the first stage of qualifying.
McGowan qualified easily as he fired a scorecard of 68-70-68-72--278 to finish the tournament at 10-under-par and tied for 6th place. The top 31 made it through to the second round; the cut was made at 2-under-par.
The Surrey, England, native now goes on to compete in the second stage of qualifying Nov. 1-4 at one of four courses in Spain. The stage will include another 72-hole stroke-play match. After 54 holes those players within seven strokes of final qualifying place will go on to the final round of competition.
The final qualifying stage takes place Nov. 9-14 at the San Rouge Club in Cadiz, Spain. More information about the European Tour can be found at www.europeantour.com.
