The Tennessee men's golf team travels this weekend to Birmingham, Ala., to compete in its second tournament of the fall season. Hosted by UAB, the Shoal Creek Invitation takes place Monday and Tuesday at Shoal Creek Country Club.
The Vols came within one stroke of their second title of the 2005-06 season at last year's Shoal Creek Invitational, finishing second to LSU. The Volunteers had a team scorecard of 285-285-294--864. Jonathan Mount earned his first career win, tying for first place with a total score of 210.
The Big Orange face a tough field as 12 of the 15 teams schedule to compete were ranked among the top 60 in Golfweek's 2006 final spring rankings.
Tino Weiss mans the No. 1 position for the Vols. The senior was the top finisher for the Vols in their first tournament of the fall, taking home a 19th-place finish with a total score of 213 at the Carpet Capital Collegiate in Dalton, Ga.
Philip Pettitt will stand at No. 2 for Tennessee. Pettitt fired a scorecard of 74-70-70--214 to finish 23rd in last week's tournament.
Charles Ford is at the No. 3 position for the Big Orange. The junior has a scoring average of 73.00 on the season.
Chris Paisley fills the No. 4 hole for the Volunteers. In 2005, Paisley carded a 70-73-82--225 and tied for 46th.
Junior Jonathan Mount will be at the No. 5 position for the Vols. This marks Mount's first competition of the fall after being held out on doctor's orders.
Teams will compete in 54 holes on Monday, with a shotgun start at 9:15 a.m. Eastern Time before the tournament concludes with 18 holes on Tuesday.
