VOLS TIED FOR FOURTH AT PING-ARIZONA INTERCOLLEGIATE

The Tennessee men's golf team started off its 2007 season on a solid note, currently tied for fourth after the first day of competition at the PING-Arizona Intercollegiate in Tucson, Ariz. A first-round team score of 281had the team 3 under par going into the second round and 5 under par for the day when play was suspended Monday.
Thirty-six holes were originally scheduled for Monday, but play was suspended due to darkness at 6:15 p.m. local time. Teams still on the course in round two have one hole remaining in order to complete the round. Play will resume Tuesday at 8 a.m. local time.
Leading the Volunteers was senior Tino Weiss. Weiss carded an even-par 71 in the first round and followed that up with a 2-under-par 69 in the second round. He stands at 2 under par for the tournament and tied for 18th place.
Junior Charlie Ford posted the best round on the day for Tennessee. Ford fired a 3-under-par 68 in the first round and was 1 over par through 14 when play was suspended.
Next for the Vols is sophomore Chris Paisley. Paisley went even-par 71 in his first round and was 1 under par with one hole left to play in his second round.
Murfreesboro native Philip Pettitt stood tied for 35th after the first day of competition. A scorecard of 72-71--143 put him at 1 over par for the tournament.
Jonathan Mount rounded out the lineup for the Volunteers. Mount followed up his first round even-par 71 with a 3-over-par 74 in the second round to stand in 43rd place after the first day.
UNLV stood in first place when play was suspended at 17 under par, with Brigham Young only three strokes back in second. Host Arizona is in third place at 13 under par with UC-Irvine and Tennessee tied for fourth at 5 under par.
