The Tennessee men's golf team improved Monday and climbed into 12th place at the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational held at Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. The Volunteers finished the day at 13 over par and with a team score of 301. After two rounds the Big Orange have a scorecard of 313-301--614.
Junior Philip Pettitt paced the Vols as he fired a 2-under-par 70 and jumped 29 spots to finish the day in a tie for seventh. His 70 is the lowest round of golf this spring, bettering the 71 he fired at the Ping Arizona Intercollegiate, Jan. 29-30.
Chris Paisley finished 4-over-par and finds himself tied for 33rd place with a scorecard of 77-76--153.
Charlie Ford followed behind Paisley. Ford finished with a 7-over-par 79 and sits tied for 48th.
James Brannen was next for the Volunteers. Brannen improved on his first-round score with a 6-over-par 78 and is in a tie for 58th place.
Senior Tino Weiss rounded out the Tennessee lineup. Weiss fired a 5-over-par 77 and is in 58th place with a scorecard of 82-77--159.
Alabama retains their day-one lead with a team score of 303-291--594. Vanderbilt and UCF are five strokes back in second (599). Coastal Carolina and Georgia State round out the top five.
Coastal Carolina's Dustin Johnson fired a second round 4-under-par 68 to overtake the lead in the individual standings. Following three strokes back in second is Vanderbilt's Jon Curran. UCLA's Kevin Chappell and UCF's Greg Forest are tied for third at 1-over-par. Vanderbilt's Luke List rounds out the top five.
The third and final round is scheduled to begin Tuesday at 8 a.m. Eastern time. Live results can be found at www.golfstat.com .
