TENNESSEE HEAD COACH Cuonzo Martin:
"First of all I would like to thank the fans for coming out and supporting us the way they did. I know it wasn't pretty early, but the guys managed to get it done and did a good job doing that. I thought Jeronne Maymon did a good job of crashing the glass on both ends of the floor; he had 15 rebounds. It was very impressive. He did very well attacking. Jordan McRae did a solid job as well. Their effort was pretty good, but it wasn't great. Overall, I would give them a C+ on the defensive side of the ball. We did not jump to the ball as well as we'd like; we didn't have five guys boxing out, but I thought overall the guys did well for their first game."
Carson-Newman head coach Chuck Benson
(On what his team can take way from tonight's game)
"I told them I am very pleased with their effort. The challenge tonight was to come in here and try to compete. We competed and we learned. We have a long way to go, obviously, but everybody on our team did some things tonight and showed some things tonight that we walk out of here feeling good about. It's just another step in the process."
(On the value of the experience Carson-Newman gained tonight)
"We can't simulate what we saw tonight in practice. We talk about it, but our kids had to go through this. Several times tonight, we had two sophomores and three freshmen on the floor. One of our most productive lineups was three freshmen and two sophomores. They get this experience and the only way to get it is to go through it. This was nothing but a positive for us and we'll build on it."
