Tennessee director of athletics Mike Hamilton recently embarked upon a 10-day mission trip to Africa, visiting the countries of Rwanda and Kenya as a member of the Blood:Water Mission group. This organization seeks to empower communities in Africa to work together against the HIV/AIDS and water crises in Africa with a core purpose of building community through creative social action.
The primary purpose of the trip was to review projects that were funded out of proceeds from the Kalu Grace Foundation's "Hope in the Dark" event that was hosted at Thompson-Boling Arena in April of 2010.
As part of the recent visit, WATE-TV 6 anchor Gene Patterson accompanied Hamilton and the Blood:Water Mission board members on the trip and has produced several vignettes entitled "Mission to Africa" that include footage from the trip highlighting the activities of the group. The segments are scheduled to air at 5 p.m. this week on four nights from Monday through Thursday (Feb. 14-17) during the WATE-TV 6 News at Five program, beginning tonight (Monday, Feb. 14).
Hamilton will also appear on WATE-TV 6 News at Five for a live interview tonight at 5:30 p.m. to discuss the trip. Additionally, Patterson will produce an hour-long special on the trip to Africa that will air on WATE-TV 6 later in the spring, with the date to be determined.
