Rowing completes weekend at Head of the Charles

BOSTON, Mass. - The Tennessee rowing team wrapped up the Head of the Charles Regatta with a 30th-place finish in the championship eight Sunday in Boston.
The Lady Vol shell coxed by sophomore Jessie Richardson completed the race with a time of 18 minutes and 11.03 seconds.The boat was composed of Katie King, Erika Johnson, Nikki Arcamuzi, Arin Anderson, Liz Dickson, Taylor Athan, Rachel White, and Evelyn Radford.
US Rowing placed first in the race with a time of 16 minutes and 13.49 seconds, followed by the Cambridge Boat Club who crossed the finish line with a time of 16 minutes and 22.15 seconds. In the third place slot was the defending NCAA champions, the University of Virginia completing the race in 16 minutes and 35.16 seconds.
In addition to the 30th-place finish on Sunday, the club eight placed ninth with a time of 17 minutes 17.17 seconds on Saturday.
The shell was coxed by freshman Harper Lucas, including Allison Toth, Liza Rader, Katherine Changes, Victoria Bartell, Paige Austin, Jennifer Bailey, Whitney Wolfe, Sarah McAuliffe. Yale University Crew took the first place slot with a time of 16 minutes and 49.64 seconds, followed by Holy Cross 17 minutes and 02:92 seconds.
Part of the thrill of the Head of the Charles is navigating numerous factors which potentially influence a crews progress down the course," head coach Lisa Glenn stated.
During the club eight race the oars of the Tennessee shell became intertwined with Yale University causing the team to break for a moment.
Glenn explained, "After only the first of 4 time checkpoints, we were caught up in a minor collision and were forced to stop briefly. At this race, it is impossible to finish in the top 3 if you have had to stop along the way."
Only the second race of the fall season the Lady Vols have set high goals for themselves as a team. "We of course set high standards for the Club 8 and I applaud our crew for stepping into big shoes." Glenn said. "In order to fill those shoes we simply cannot let outside factors influence how we tackle our internal goals."
The rowing team will have one open week to practice until they return to Chattanooga for the well-known Head of the Hooch Regatta on November 3-4.
At the same sight as their season-opener, the Hooch begins upstream in the Tennessee River and ends at Ross's Landing Park in front of the Aquarium in Chattanooga.
