KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - During the month of April, University of Tennessee student-athletes took time from their busy, end-of-the-semester schedules to call and thank all of the Tennessee Fund donors.
The University's Thank-A-Thon provided a unique chance for the student-athletes to express some gratitude to the people that made contributions through the Tennessee Fund.
"The Tennessee Athletic Department and its student-athletes depend upon our donors' support every year," Associate Athletic Director for Development Greg Hulen said. "Due to their generosity, our 500-plus student-athletes have an experience they can take with them the rest of their lives. The Thank-a-Thon provides a unique learning opportunity for our student-athletes as well as a sincere `Thank You' to our greatest supporters. We feel it is a creative way to give a little something back to those who give so much to UT."
The unique event allowed members from every university sports team to make personal calls in a gesture that was well-received by the donors.
"It made me feel very much appreciated by the student-athlete," 1991 graduate Dr. Karen Baker-Curtis said. "As an alumni and longtime Tennessee Fund supporter, I genuinely felt like LaTroy Lewis really did appreciate me."
Lewis was not the only Vol football player working the phones, though, as redshirt-freshman wide receiver and Tennessee native Drae Bowles also made calls in order to give a little something back to those who help enrich the lives of student-athletes across campus.
"It was an honor to call the donors and personally thank them for donating money to our university," Bowles said. "It means a lot to us that they support us though the ups and the downs."
