POSTGAME NOTES
TENNESSEE TIDBITS
- In its 118th season of football, UT's all-time record now stands at 807-364-53.
- UT now stands at 38-2-2 in their 42 overall meetings with Chattanooga, including a 31-11 mark in Knoxville, Tenn. Today's game marked the first between the two teams after a 45-year break.
- With the win, the Vols have won nine in a row in the series against Chattanooga since 1959.
- The Vols now have won 14 consecutive home non-conference games dating back to Sept. 25, 2010.
- Tennessee holds a 69-19-3 all-time record on Homecoming dates.
- UT is 295-142-21 all-time in October and 13-4-1 on October 11.
- The Vols scored a season-high 45 points, the most since a 52-20 victory over Western Kentucky on Sept. 7, 2013.
- By winning the coin toss against Chattanooga, UT snapped a streak of 11 consecutive pregame coin toss losses and 12 overall coin tosses including a lost overtime toss against Georgia on Oct. 5, 2013.
- UT is 1-0 when winning the coin flip and 2-3 when losing the toss in 2014.

TENNESSEE CAPTAINS
- #14 Justin Worley, #45 A.J. Johnson and #56 Curt Maggitt represented the Vols for the pregame coin toss.
VFL LEGEND OF THE GAME
- VFL Mike Stratton (1959-61) was honored in a pregame ceremony before the Chattanooga-Tennessee Homecoming game as the Vols' Legend of the Game.
- Stratton lettered for the Vols from 1959-61, playing left end.
- The Vonore native made 11 catches for 152 yards with four touchdowns.
- After being drafted in 1962 by the Buffalo Bills, Stratton went on to be named the AFL All-Star in six-consecutive seasons from 1963-68. He won AFL titles with the Bills in 1964 and 65.
- Stratton played with the Bills until 1972, going on to play one season with the San Diego Chargers in 1973.
FRESH DEBUTS CONTINUE
- #24 Derrell Scott made his debut for the Vols at running back in the first quarter, marking the 23rd true freshman to appear in a game for UT this year.
- Tennessee has now played 23 true freshmen overall, the most for any FBS program in the nation in 2014.
- The Vols played 70 players against Chattanooga, including 21 true freshmen with #24 Derrell Scott and redshirt freshman #79 Thomas Edwards making their Neyland Stadium debuts. Against the Mocs, 33 of the 70 total players are experiencing their first season of playing time with the Vols. On the season, 78 total players have played for the UT while 36 are playing for Tennessee for the first time in 2014.
OFFENSE
MAKING GRABS
- #81 Johnathon Johnson made his third career start, first of the 2014 season, at wide receiver against Chattanooga in place of #2 Pig Howard.
- #14 Justin Worley picked up 14 yards on a rushing play in the first quarter, his longest run of the year and the longest of his career. His previous long rushing distance was 13 yards, accomplished twice in 2013 against South Alabama on Sept. 28 and South Carolina on Oct. 19.
- #18 Jason Croom caught a 30-yard pass from Worley in the first quarter, the longest reception for Croom this season. Croom had a career-high six catches for 76 yards. His previous highs were four receptions against Georgia in 2014 and 74 yards at Kentucky in 2013.
- In the third quarter, Worley connected with true freshman #4 Vic Wharton for his first career reception. Wharton finished the game with three receptions for 10 total yards receiving.
- #12 Nate Peterman shared action at quarterback in the second half against Chattanooga, going 3-for-5 with 19 yards passing and one touchdown rushing on five carries (26 total yards).
- #87 Jacob Carter made his first reception of the year in the fourth quarter, a 14-yard pass from Peterman.
HOW THEY SCORED
- #14 Justin Worley connected with #8 Marquez North for a five-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter. The catch marked North's fourth touchdown this season, as well as the fifth of his career.
- #25 Aaron Medley made a 25-yard field goal attempt to begin the second quarter. On the year, Medley is 9-of-12 in field goal attempts and has at least one field goal made in each of his six games.
- Worley had an eight-yard score in the second quarter. The touchdown marked Worley's second rushing TD of the season and the second of his career (also, Arkansas State in 2014).
- Worley connected with #81 Johnathon Johnson for a 21-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter, the first touchdown reception of Johnson's career.
- Johnson later caught a 19-yard touchdown pass from Worley to begin the second half, his second career touchdown pass.
- Worley rushed one yard for his second rushing touchdown of the night against Chattanooga in the third quarter, becoming the first Tennessee player to rush for two touchdowns in a single game.
- #12 Nathan Peterman ran for a 14-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, his first rushing touchdown of the season.
WORLEY NUMBERS
- #14 Justin Worley was responsible for five Vol touchdowns against Chattanooga. The last time a UT quarterback had a hand in scoring five TDs (five TD passes) was Tyler Bray against Troy University in 2012.
- The last time a Vol quarterback had a hand in five touchdowns (rushing and passing) was Casey Clausen with two rushing and three passing touchdowns on Jan. 1, 2002 against Michigan in the 2002 Citrus Bowl.
- Worley became the first Vol to rush for two touchdowns in a game since Rajion Neal had a pair vs. Georgia on Oct. 5, 2013.
- With two rushing touchdowns, Worley also became the first Vols quarterback to rush for two touchdowns in a single game since Casey Clausen did so in the 2002 Citrus Bowl against Michigan (Jan. 1, 2002).
- Worley threw three touchdown passes against the Mocs, marking the third time this season and the fourth time in his career. In addition to tonight's effort, he also had three scoring strikes against Austin Peay (2013), Utah State (2014) and Georgia (2014).
- Worley's touchdown pass to North in the first quarter marked the 10th of the season for Worley. He went on to connect with #81 Johnathon Johnson twice, finished the game with three touchdown passes and a new career-high 12 touchdown passes for the season.
- Worley was 19-for-24 with 198 yards passing and three touchdowns while connecting with eight different receivers.
- Worley's two rushing touchdowns, along with Peterman's rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter, gave the Vols three quarterback rushing touchdowns. The last time Tennessee had three quarterback rushing touchdowns was Tee Martin (3) against Georgia on Oct. 9, 1999.
DEFENSE
SHUTTING IT DOWN
- Tennessee allowed the Mocs only 201 total yards of offense, the fewest yards allowed since UT-Martin had 142 yards in 2010.
- #56 Curt Maggitt recorded his sixth tackle for loss this season in the first quarter, establishing a new single-season high.
- #42 Chris Weatherd also recorded his second career sack on Chattanooga's quarterback #14 Jacob Huesman in the first quarter.
- In the second quarter, #9 Derek Barnett recovered a fumble by the Mocs' quarterback Huesman.
- #27 Justin Coleman recorded his second career interception against Chattanooga in the third quarter and returned it for 53 yards. The effort marks the longest interception return for UT of the season. His last interception came against Western Kentucky in 2013.
- With Coleman's interception, the Vols now have nine interceptions by six different players in 2014.
- #20 Cortez McDowell recovered a Chattanooga fumble in the fourth quarter, putting his team on the Mocs' 14-yard line.
FOURTH PLACE FOR JOHNSON
- #45 A.J. Johnson forced a fumble on Mocs' quarterback Huesman in the second quarter, his second forced fumble of the season and the third of his career. Huesman recovered and was tackled by Vols' #4 LaTroy Lewis.
- With nine tackles and four assisted tackles, #45 A.J. Johnson now has 392 total tackles (fourth all-time) and 191 assisted tackles (second all-time) for Tennessee.
SPECIAL TEAMS
YOUNG GUYS, BIG RETURNS
- #23 Cameron Sutton recorded the longest punt return of his career with a 42-yard effort for the Vols in the first quarter. The return stands as the longest punt return for a Vol since Cordarrelle Patterson ran one back 81 yards for a touchdown against Vanderbilt on Nov. 17, 2012.
- #22 Malik Foreman fielded his first career kick return in the second quarter, a 15-yard return.
- #29 Evan Berry ran for 68-yards in his first career kickoff return to start the second half for the Vols. The return marked the longest since Cordarrelle Patterson's 98-yard return against Mississippi State in 2012. Berry is now only the fourth different Vol to field a kickoff return this year, along with #19 Devrin Young, #31 Justus Pickett and #22 Malik Foreman.
MEDLEY IN TUNE
- #25 Aaron Medley was 6-of-6 on PATs against Chattanooga. On the season, Medley now has a 19-of-19 mark for PATs as a true freshman with Tennessee.
- After recording no touchbacks through his first five games, Medley had seven touchbacks against Chattanooga.
- Medley's 42-yard field goal attempt was no good in the fourth quarter, ending a streak of seven made field goals and marking his first missed attempt since Sept. 6 against Arkansas State.
PUNTS BY DARR
- #43 Matt Darr punted four times for an average of 50.0 yards, including a 54-yard punt in the first quarter. Darr now has eight punts of 50-or-more yards this season, as well as six in the last three weeks. Darr has 14 punts inside the 20 yard line in 2014.
