POSTGAME NOTES
TENNESSEE TIDBITS
- In its 118th season of football, UT's all-time record now stands at 807-366-53.
- The Vols' 20 points scored mark the most points scored for Tennessee against Alabama in regulation play since 2003. The Vols also had 20 points in regulation play that year en route to a 51-43 five-overtime victory in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
- UT stands at 38-52-7 in their 97 overall meetings with Alabama.
- The Vols are 20-24-1 all-time against the Crimson Tide in 45 games played in Knoxville, Tenn. (since 1909).
- Alabama now holds an eight-game win streak over Tennessee, dating back to 2006.
- UT is 295-144-21 all-time in October and 5-8-1 on October 25.
- UT is 1-0 when winning the coin flip and 2-5 when losing the toss in 2014.
- Tonight's attendance: 102,455. With the crowd of 102,455 on hand for Saturday, it marked the first time since the 2007 season that Neyland Stadium drew three or more crowds of that size. The attendance for a sellout has fluctuated over the last decade due to construction and seating adjustments at Neyland. In 2007, Tennessee welcomed more than 104,000 on five occasions.
TENNESSEE CAPTAINS
- #14 Justin Worley, #45 A.J. Johnson and #56 Curt Maggitt represented the Vols for the pregame coin toss.
VFL LEGEND OF THE GAME
- VFL Dale Jones (1983-86) was honored in a pregame ceremony before the Alabama-Tennessee game as the Vols' Legend of the Game.
- Jones is best known as the defensive leader of UT's 1985 SEC Championship squad which went on to stun No. 2 Miami (Fla.) in the Sugar Bowl, 35-7.
- During his time, UT teams went 3-1 against the Crimson Tide.
- Jones earned Freshman All-American honors in 1983 and was a two-time All-SEC linebacker for the Vols.
- Jones is in his 19th season on the coaching staff for Appalachian State. He was named inside linebackers coach for the Mountaineers in 2014.
ORANGE-ON-ORANGE
- The Vols donned orange pants for the first time this season, sporting a full orange uniform for the first time since Oct. 19, 2013, when the Vols upset #11/9 South Carolina in a 23-21 victory.
- The full orange combination was popular under Head Coach Johnny Majors in the 1980s. The Vols are 2-3 in their last five times wearing orange-on-orange:
- Sept. 25, 1999 vs. Memphis (W, 17-16)
- Dec. 1, 2007 vs. LSU in SEC Championship Game (L, 21-14)
- Oct. 3, 2009 vs. Auburn (L, 26-22)
- Oct. 19, 2013 vs. South Carolina (W, 23-21)
- Oct. 25, 2014 vs. Alabama (L, 34-20)
- Tennessee last wore full orange uniforms against Alabama in 1988.
- UT last wore orange pants on Nov. 30, 2013 in a 27-14 victory over Kentucky in Lexington, Ky.
OFFENSE
NEW OFFENSIVE STARTS
- #12 Nathan Peterman made his second career start (first of the season) at quarterback against Alabama. Peterman's last start came on Sept. 21, 2013 at #19 Florida.
- #77 Kyler Kerbyson made his first career start at left guard against Alabama.
- #65 Jacob Gilliam made his first start at right tackle, marking his first start since UT's home opener on Aug. 31 against Utah State (left tackle).
DOBBS & PETERMAN UNDER CENTER
- #11 Joshua Dobbs saw action at the quarterback position for the first time this season. Tonight marks his first game action since Nov. 30, 2013 against Kentucky. He was 19-of-32 for 192 yards passing with two touchdown passes.
- Dobbs rushed for 75 yards on 19 carries, the most by a Vols quarterback since Tee Martin had 81 yards rushing against Syracuse on Sept. 5, 1998. Dobbs' 75 rushing yards established a new career high for rushing yards in a single game. His previous best rushing yard total was 52 yards against Kentucky on Nov. 30, 2013.
- With two touchdown passes against the Crimson Tide, Dobbs had his second career, two-touchdown pass game. He also had a pair of scoring strikes against Kentucky on Nov. 30, 2013 against Kentucky.
- #12 Nathan Peterman had two completions on four attempts for 10 yards in the first half.
HOW THEY SCORED
- #11 Joshua Dobbs threw a nine-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver #3 Josh Malone in the second quarter. The catch was the first touchdown reception of Malone's career.
- #25 Aaron Medley made his two PATs for the Vols against Alabama. On the year, Medley is 21-for-21 on PATS.
- Medley made a 27-yard field goal attempt in the second quarter. In the fourth quarter, he also made a 24-yard field goal. He is now 12-of-15 on field goal attempts this year and has at least one field goal in all eight career games for UT.
- Dobbs connected for a nine-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver #9 Von Pearson in the third quarter. The touchdown marked the second of Pearson's career and his first since Aug. 31 vs. Utah State.
ON OFFENSE
- The Vols' 181 yards rushing on 43 attempts were the most by UT against the Tide since rushing for 184 yards in 2010.
- UT has accumulated more rushing yards than any Alabama opponent this year. The Crimson Tide previously allowed 107 yards on 27 carries by Florida on Sept. 20, 2014.
- The Vols' 383 total yards offense are the most by UT against the Crimson Tide since Tennessee had 493 total offensive yards in 2003.
- In red zone attempts against the Tide, the Vols were 4-of-4 and improved to 29-of-32 on the year.
- #45 A.J. Johnson took his first snap in the wildcat formation since Nov. 24, 2012 against Kentucky.
- #1 Jalen Hurd took his first career snap in the wildcat formation in the first quarter and ran for a three yard gain.
- Dobbs connected with tight end #48 Alex Ellis for a 25-yard reception in the first quarter. The 25-yard catch marked the second of Ellis' career, as well as a career-long reception for Ellis. The play was also the longest reception by a Vols' tight end this year.
- Dobbs completed a 28-yard pass to #2 Pig Howard in the second quarter, putting UT on the Alabama 49-yard line.
- #15 Marlin Lane recorded his longest rush of the season with a 44-yard run in the second quarter.
- #8 Marquez North caught a 20-yard pass from Dobbs with less than two minutes left in the first half, putting UT on Alabama's 19-yard line.
- Dobbs connected with #82 Ethan Wolf for a 10-yard reception in the third quarter.
DEFENSE
DEFENSIVELY SPEAKING
- With eight tackles against Alabama, #45 A.J. Johnson moved ahead of Earnest Fields (407) on the all-time total tackles list for Tennessee with 410.
- #56 Curt Maggitt recorded his fourth sack of the season on Alabama's #6 Blake Sims in the third quarter for a loss of six yards.
- #50 Corey Vereen recovered an Alabama fumble in the third quarter for his first career fumble recovery, putting his Vols on the Alabama 23-yard line.
- Alabama was 11-for-15 on third down conversions. UT is now 41-for-122 on defensive third down conversions. Entering the matchup with the Crimson Tide, Tennessee owned a 28.0 defensive third down conversion percentage, eighth-best in the country and tops in the SEC.
- #24 Michael Williams started in place of #56 Curt Maggitt on the Vols defense against Alabama.
- #23 Cameron Sutton forced an Alabama fumble with less than three minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, recovered by #34 Jalen Reeves-Maybin.
IT'S NOT HOW YOU START...
- UT started the game 0-for-4 on third down conversions. After that, the Vols were 11-for-15.
- Alabama began the contest 3-for-3 on third down conversions. Since then, they have converted 8-for-12 on third down conversion attempts.
SPECIAL TEAMS
PUNTS BY DARR
- #43 Matt Darr punted five times, including two inside the 10-yard line. Darr now has six punts inside the 10-yard line this season, 13 for his career.

CURRENT TRENDS
- The Vols were trending nationally on Twitter with the topics: "BAMAvsTENN", "Josh Dobbs" and "Marlin Lane".
WITH THE TIDE
- #9 Amari Cooper had 224 yards receiving on nine catches. The last time an opposing receiver had 200-plus yards receiving against UT was when Julio Jones of Alabama had 221 yards on Oct. 23, 2010.
- Alabama's quarterback #6 Blake Sims connected with wide receiver #9 Amari Cooper for an 80-yard touchdown on the Tide's opening possession of the game. The last time an opponent had an 80-yard completion was on Sept. 17, 2011, when Florida's John Brantley hit Chris Rainey with an 83-yard touchdown pass.
