KNOXVILLE, Tenn.--USA Swimming announced its coaching staff rosters for three major international competitions--the FINA World Championships, the Pan-American Games and the World University Games--Monday afternoon and Tennessee's own Matt Kredich is among the elite coaches selected to the roster.
The longtime Lady Vol head coach and current combined program head coach will serve as the women's head coach for Team USA at the 2015 Pan-American Games in Toronto from July 14-18, 2015. Kredich will join UT swimmers Brad Craig and Sean Lehane north of the border, who were selected to the team earlier this fall.
This is Kredich's second Team USA coaching assignment, after it was announced that he would be an assistant for the American team heading to Qatar for the 2014 Short Course World Championships earlier in November.
"The commitments from a mix of veteran coaches and rising stars on these three staffs position our National Team well for both short- and long-term success," said USA Swimming National Team Director Frank Busch in a press release. "Next summer, our swimmers will be in great hands as they look to excel against top international competition heading into an Olympic year in 2016."
Kredich will be assisted fellow SEC coach Greg Rhodenbaugh (Missouri), as well as SwimMAC Carolina's Bob Groseth and Stanford's Ted Knapp. The men's team is coached by Jason Turcotte of Atlanta-area Dynamo Swim Club, assisted by Louisville's Arthur Albiero, York (PA) YMCA's Michael Brooks and North Baltimore Aquatic Club's Erik Posegay.
Along with Craig and Lehane, Team USA's roster offers quite the star power heading up to Canada. Olympic veterans such as Cullen Jones, Natalie Coughlin, Allison Schmitt and Darian Townsend team up with NCAA standouts such as Olivia Smoliga and Amber McDermott and Louisville's Kelsi Worrell, as well as Stanford's Max Williamson and Michigan's Michael Klueh on the men's side.
