Meet Central: 2014 Janis Hape Dowd Nike Cup
November 19, 2014 | Swimming & Diving
Nov. 19, 2014

Both the men's and women's programs have been thoroughly tested so far this season, with dual meets against several of the country's top teams, including their first loss to the hands of the host Tar Heels back in October.
The No. 14 men's team (3-4, 1-1 SEC) and No. 8 women's team (4-2-1, 1-0-1 SEC) enters the Nike Cup, which will feature the likes of No.9/14 UNC, No. --/20 NC State, Duke, East Carolina, Old Dominion, Navy and Air Force.
With action starting Friday morning, here are a few quick notes:
THREE-DAY SCHEDULE: The Nike Cup is a great pre-postseason indicator of what Tennessee's championship season will look like come February and March, with the scheduling is similar to the SEC and NCAA meets. Preliminary races and diving competitions will take place in the morning (starting at 9:30 a.m.), followed by the championship rounds in the evening (starting at 5:30 p.m.). Tennessee has only competed in dual meets so far this year, so this weekend also serves as the first multi-day event for the team.
- 1650 freestyle (instead of the 1000 freestyle)
- 400 individual medley
- 200 free relay
- 400 medley relay
- 800 free relay
RETURN TO THE PLATFORM: The UT divers will compete off platform for the first time this season. Because Koury Natatorium only has diving platforms from one-meter to five-meter, Mauricio Robles, Sam Lera and Sarah Chewning will travel with Head Diving Coach Dave Parrington along Tobacco Road to nearby Duke University for the event Saturday.
