DOUBLE DIGITS AGAIN
- Senior Josh Richardson led the Vols with 16 points and five rebounds.
- He has led the Vols in scoring all four games this season, scoring 16 or more points in each game.
- Richardson has scored in double figures in eight consecutive games, dating to last season.
- Senior Kevin Punter had his second game with at least 10 points, finishing with a career-high 14. He was an efficient 6 of 9 from the field with two assists and two steals.
MOSTELLA'S RANGE
- Freshman Detrick Mostella had his best game since the opener against VCU, scoring 13 points with four 3-pointers.
- Mostella drained 4 of his first 5 threes before ending the game 4 of 8. The four threes is a career high made in a game.
- He had scored 17 in the first game of the season vs. VCU, with three 3-pointers.
OFF THE GLASS
- Rebounding spelled a big difference for Kansas in the semifinal. The Jayhawks outrebounded the Vols 44-22.
- Perry Ellis led the way for Kansas in both scoring and rebounding with 24 points and 13 rebounds.
- Rebounding was in Kansas' favor early. The Jayhawks outrebounded the Vols 23-13 in the first half. Of those 23 boards, 10 were on the offensive side and converted into 14 points.
WINNING THE TURNOVER BATTLE
- The Vols had just 10 turnovers while Kansas had 16.
- Tennessee had seven steals, led by Punter's two
- The Vols turned the 16 turnovers into 24 points.
- They have forced more turnovers than they have committed in 3 of 4 games this season. It was Tennessee's second game of 10 or fewer (Texas Southern - 8, 11/20/14)
HALFTIME NOTES
- It was an up and down half for both Tennessee and Kansas, featuring four lead changes and two ties.
- Kevin Punter led the Vols in the first half with 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting and 2-of-2 from the free throw line. He also had a pair of rebounds and a steal.
- Seven Vols scored at least 1 point during the half, of the 10 total Vols who played.
- The Vols had a rare 6-point possession during the half. Punter got a steal and raced down the court for a layup and was fouled. After a flagrant foul was assessed, Punter made two free throws and the Vols got the ball back. After a pair of offensive rebounds, Richardson scored after the in-bounds play to cut Kansas' lead to 35-31 with 2:05 in the half.
THE RUN
- Down 54-43, a 10-0 run midway through the second half got the Vols right back in the game.
- Richardson started off with a layup at 14:23, and Mostella hit 3-pointers in back-to-back possessions.
- A steal by Reese and a pass from Robert Hubbs III to Kevin Punter for a fast break layup cut Kansas' lead to 54-53 with 12:15 on the clock.
- Moore later tied the game 62-62 with a free throw.
