HARRIS' NBA BIO PAGE
It's been 14 years since a Tennessee alum has participated in an NBA All-Star Game, but Orlando Magic forward Tobias Harris is making a push to end that drought.
In only his fourth NBA campaign, Harris--who was a 2011 Freshman All-American during his lone season as a Vol--is averaging 18.7 points, 7.8 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.0 steals in 35.4 minutes per game. A starter, he leads the 9-15 Magic in scoring and ranks second on the team in rebounding.
His scoring average currently ranks 26th in the entire league, and his 3-point shooting percentage of .436 ranks 12th among all NBA players. He has scored at least 20 points nine time this season and also has five double-doubles on the year.
Harris is a native of Dix Hills, N.Y., and fans can CAST VOTES DAILY to send him home for 2015 All-Star Weekend Feb. 14-15.
The BBVA Rising Stars Challenge, Sprint NBA All-Star Celebrity Game and State Farm All-Star Saturday Night--including the Sears Shooting Stars, Taco Bell Skills Challenge, Foot Locker 3-Point Contest and Sprite Slam Dunk--will be held at Barclays Center, home of the Brooklyn Nets.
The 64th NBA All-Star Game will be played at Madison Square Garden, home of the New York Knicks, Sunday, Feb.15.
Fans can keep up with Harris through social media on Twitter @tobias31 and Instagram @tobiasharris.
Tennessee's all-time leading scorer, Allan Houston, is the most recent Vol to make an NBA All-Star Game appearance. He represented the Eastern Conference in both 2000 and 2001.
Two-time Tennessee All-American and NBA great Dale Ellis took part in the NBA's All-Star Weekend in 1989. He won the Long Distance Shootout (3-point contest) and then scored 27 points on 12-of-16 shooting in that weekend's All-Star Game in Houston.
The only other Tennessee product to appear in an NBA All-Star Game is Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer Bernard King. He earned All-Star status in 1982, 1984, 1985 and 1991.
All-American center Austin "Red" Robbins played eight seasons in the ABA and was a three-time ABA All-Star.
