JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. -- Tennessee shot a single round season-low score of 278 (-10) to move in a tie for sixth after two rounds of play at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at the Blackthorn Club Saturday.

Three of the five Volunteer starters--Lorenzo Scalise, Chad Merzbacher and Jack Smith--shot below par in the second round, marking the first time this season that three or more Tennessee competitors have finished a single round below par.

Sophomore Lorenzo Scalise posted a career-low 65 (-7) to move to 1-under overall. He birdied seven and was bogey-free. His low round moved him 47 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 17th.

A 3-under round from senior Chad Merzbacher moved him in the top 10 on the individual leaderboard. He birdied four and bogeyed one in the round. He enters Sunday in contention for his second top-10 finish, currently sitting in a tie for 7th.

Jack Smith eagled the par-5 14th and birdied two en route to his second round 71 (-1). He enters the final day of play in a tie for 26th at 1-over.

Senior Michael Nagy shot 3-over in the round and is 6-over overall. Freshman Nicklas Mattner, who is making his debut for the Vols, shot a 1-over 73 Saturday and finished the round 8-over after two.

Juan Carlos Serrano Guevara, who is competing as an individual, posted one birdie and one eagle Saturday, finishing even par in the round and is 1-over overall.

Tennessee will tee off in Sunday's final round beginning at 8:30 a.m. ET. The Vols will be paired with Virginia and East Carolina.
