Tennessee opened the Barclays Center Classic on Friday night, seeing its second-half surge fall short against George Washington. The Vols trailed by as many as 15 in the second half and battled back to within one, but it was as close as UT would come before falling 73-70.
Making a homecoming of sorts, Bronx native Kevin Punter led Tennessee with 24 points against the Colonials -- 17 of which came in the second half. Devon Baulkman added 16 points, hitting four threes along the way, and Robert Hubbs III added 13. Tennessee outscored GW 43-35 in the second half and went the entire second period without a turnover.
Nebraska falls into the third-place game after dropping a 65-61 decision to No. 24 Cincinnati.
