Punter Named to Barclays All-Tournament Team

Tennessee basketball senior Kevin Punter Jr.’s performance at the Barclays Center Classic earned him inclusion on the event’s five-man All-Tournament Team.
Playing in hometown of New York City, the Bronx native put on a show in Brooklyn, averaging a team-best 23.5 points, four rebounds, 3.5 steals and three assists in games against George Washington and Nebraska on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
Punter shot .519 overall during the tournament, and he was 16 of 19 (.842) from the free-throw line.
In Friday’s 73-70 loss to the Colonials, Punter had 23 points and three steals. Just 13 hours later, Punter totaled 23 points, five assists and four steals during an 82-71 setback to the Huskers.
In addition to leading Tennessee in scoring both days, he also played a team-high 34.5 minutes per game.
Through Saturday’s games, Punter leads the Southeastern Conference in scoring (22.3 ppg) and minutes played (34.6 mpg). He ranks tied for third in the league in steals, with 2.1 steals per game.
The All-Tournament Team was announced after No. 24 Cincinnati defeated George Washington 61-56 in Saturday’s championship game. Punter was joined on the team by Tai Webster (Nebraska), Patricio Garino (George Washington), Tyler Cavanaugh (George Washington) and Troy Caupain (Cincinnati).
Punter and the Vols (4-3) now turn their attention to Fall semester finals before returning to action Dec. 12 at Butler.
