December 26, 2015 | Football
TAMPA, Fla. -- The Vols arrived in Tampa to begin their week of preparation for the 2016 Outback Bowl. Follow coverage all day on Saturday as Team 119 departed Knoxville in the early afternoon. Tennessee landed at the Tampa International Airport at 3:20 p.m. and headed for their headquarters for the week on Harbour Island.
In one of the Outback Bowl's signature traditions, bowl officials extended a special welcome to the Tennessee Volunteers and the Northwestern Wildcats tonight during the first official bowl week event at the Outback Steakhouse Team Welcome Dinner. The teams official travel parties were treated to a feast from Outback Steakhouse while bowl representatives welcomed the players and presented gifts to Tennessee coach Butch Jones, A.D. Dave Hart, Northwestern coach Pat Fitzgerald, A.D. Jim Phillips and their wives.
And a feast it was as the teams combined to devour more than 5,000 lbs. of food including: 750 lbs. of sirloin steak, 750 lbs. of chicken and 900 lbs. of ribs, all cooked over a wood fire grill. Also, 625 pounds of Steakhouse Mac & Cheese, 1,600 coconut shrimp, 160 bloomin' onions, 700 lbs. of house salad, 1,600 honey wheat dinner rolls, 1,200 lbs. of cheese cake, 60 gallons of barbecue sauce and dozens of cases of soda and water.
