#11 UT Shuts Down FGCU, 9-0 (5)

TAMPA, Fla. -- Annie Aldrete went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, Erin Gabriel tossed five shutout innings and No. 11 Tennessee surged past Florida Gulf Coast, 9-0, in five frames on Friday at the USF Presidents Day Weekend Tournament.
Tennessee (6-0) took hold of the game with a six-run first inning and never looked back. UT added two more in the third and one in the fifth to notch its fourth shutout of the season and its fourth win by run rule. FGCU (2-4) managed just two hits in the game.
Aldrete hit three singles, marking the fifth three-hit game of her career and her first three-hit showing since going 3-for-3 against Tennessee Tech on April 8, 2014. Lexi Overstreet finished 2-for-3 with a double, a triple, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Rainey Gaffin was 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run. Tory Lewis had two RBIs off an infield single and a sac fly.
Erin Gabriel (2-0) fanned seven over five scoreless innings with two hits and two walks allowed.
FGCU's Shelby Morgan took the loss after giving up eight runs (three earned) over three innings. Ashley Dobson gave up one unearned run over two relief innings.
Tennessee seized control of the game with its six-run first. With one on and one out, Aldrete put UT on the scoreboard with an RBI single up the middle. Scarlet McSwain scored when Taylor Koenig reached on a fielder's choice three batters later. Overstreet plated two runs when she smacked a triple to left center in the following at-bat. Lewis legged out an RBI single to short to put Tennessee up 6-0.
With runners on the corners in the third inning, Lewis drove in Jessica Adell with a sac fly to right field. Gaffin followed with an RBI single up the middle to score Overstreet.
The Lady Vols rounded out their scoring in the fifth inning when Aldrete ripped an RBI single through the left side with one out.
