OAK RIDGE, Tenn. - During a rainy, foggy Saturday on Melton Hill Lake, the Tennessee rowing program took to the water in the fourth annual Oak Ridge Cardinal Invite where the Lady Volunteers finished the first day of racing placing third in seven of eight races.
After an hour delay due to fog, Tennessee began its spring competition season in the first varsity eight with a third place finish against Yale and Louisville with a time of 6 minutes and 15.962 seconds.
In the second race of the day, UT's first varsity four crossed the finish line in 7 minutes and 10.365 seconds securing the third place slot.
Tennessee's second varsity eight also finished third in the morning session against Yale and Louisville finishing with a time of 6 minutes and 25.420 seconds.
To close out the morning session of races, the Big Orange finished third (7:25.727) in the second varsity four, third to Yale and Louisville.
During the afternoon set of racing the varsity eight placed third, falling to Minnesota and Big 12 foe Oklahoma, with a time of 6 minutes and 11.928 seconds, holding off Alabama by a little over six seconds.
The varsity four also finished third to Minnesota and Oklahoma with a time of 7 minutes and 4.036 seconds, crossing the finish line ahead of Alabama by four seconds.
UT's second varsity eight crossed the finish line on Melton Hill Lake in 6 minutes and 18.905 seconds placing third.
In the final race of the day, the Lady Vols' second varsity four finished fourth with a time of 7 minutes and 18.435 seconds.
Tennessee will return to the water for another set of races on Melton Hill Lake Sunday beginning at 11:06 AM with the varsity eight against Michigan State, Kansas and Alabama.
