V8 Closes Out Crew Classic In Grand Final

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Tennessee rowing finished its weekend of racing at the 42nd annual San Diego Crew Classic with a first place finish in the petite final in the V4+ beating out Loyola Marymount, the second place team, by a little over two seconds.
In Tennessee's first race on Sunday, the 2V8 competed in the petite final after finishing third on Saturday. With a time of 7 minutes and 13.15 seconds, the Lady Vols crossed the finish line on Mission Bay in third place narrowly falling to British Columbia who finished second with a time of 7 minutes and 13.01 seconds.
The Lady Vols' Varsity Four shell clocked in a time of 8 minutes and .08.16 seconds securing the first place slot over Loyola Marymount, ODU, Duke, SDSU and Saint Marys.
During the highly competitive grand final in the varsity eight, places second through fourth were only separated a little over two tenths of a second. Tennessee finished fourth crossing the finish line with a time of 6 minutes and 56.38 seconds, while Kansas State finished second with a time of 6 minutes and 56.17 seconds and Sacramento State clocked in a time of 6 minutes and 56.23 seconds.
Tennessee will break from racing for three weeks before heading to Clemson, South Carolina to race in the Clemson Invitational. This will be the third year in a row the Lady Vols will travel to Clemson, last season UT brought home the bronze medal in the 2V8+.
