Vols Receive More Honors From Athlon
June 10, 2015 | Football
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Seven Vols were named to Athlon Sports SEC All-Conference teams, including Derek Barnett who was honored with first team defense accolades.
As a freshman, Barnett recorded 10 sacks, 20.5 tackles for loss and eight quarterback hurries. His TFLs and sacks put him in the record book for most by a true freshman in history. He also led the SEC with 18 TFLs in conference games.
Three more Vols earned recognition for their work on the Orange Swarm. Curt Maggitt, Brian Randolph and Cameron Sutton were each named to the second team defense team.
Maggitt played in all 13 games in 2014, making 48 tackles with a team-best 11.0 sacks. Randolph was third in the SEC for tackles by a defensive back (88), and made a personal season-best 88 tackles. Sutton started in all 13 games, posting 37 tackles with four for a loss and a team-best 16 passes defended.
Sutton was also named to the fourth team specialists team. He had 14 punts returns for 158 yards, which included a 76-yard return for a touchdown and one kickoff return for 21 yards.
Offensively speaking, quarterback Joshua Dobbs, running back Jalen Hurd and wide receiver Marquez North each made the third team offense team.
Dobbs, who will return as the starting quarterback for the Vols, tallied a total of 17 touchdowns, both passing and receiving, in six games. Hurd was the Vols leading rusher with 190 carries for 899 yards and five rushing touchdowns. North started the first 10 games of the season before being injured but was second in receiving yards (320) and tied for the lead in receiving touchdowns (4).
