KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Volunteer senior Michael Nagy finished 6-over after two rounds of stroke play on Monday and Tuesday in the U.S. Amateur Championship at Olympia Fields Country Club in Olympia Fields, Illinois.
Nagy’s 6-over was not enough to advance to the next stage of the tournament. After two rounds of stroke play, the lowest 64 scores advanced to match play. At the conclusion of two rounds, 3-over was the score to qualify for match play. Nagy found himself three shots back.
Nagy’s opening round proved to be the highlight of the championship. After a difficult start to the round, Nagy eagled the 566-yard par-5 seventh hole. Following the eagle, he posted a 4-under 31 on the back nine, birdying five of the nine holes. After the first round, Nagy was tied for 18th at 1-under.
Despite a strong opening round, Nagy struggled on the second day. His round two score of 77 left him on the wrong side of the cut line. He birdied one hole on the day.
