KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee men's tennis team is playing on their home courts for the first time this season, hosting the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships Presented by Oracle.
The tournament runs Thursday through Monday. The singles and doubles champions will earn a spot in next month's USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships in New York.
Four Vols are seeded in the 128-player singles draw, headlined by No. 2-seeded Luis Valero. The All-SEC junior from Cali, Colombia, was a quarterfinalist in this event last year.
Sophomore Timo Stodder, who leads the Vols with a 7-3 record, is the No. 9 seed and is coming off a final appearance at the Georgia Tech Invitational. He will be making his regional debut alongside No. 16-seeded sophomore Srdjan Jakovljevic and No. 32-seeded freshman Scott Jones.
Valero and senior Jack Schipanski are the No. 1 seeds in doubles.
VOL CHAMPIONS AT THE OHIO VALLEY REGIONAL: Since joining the ITA Ohio Valley Region in the 2009 regional realignment, Tennessee has won one singles title (Hunter Reese, 2013) and three doubles titles (Boris Conkic/Rhyne Williams, 2009; Mikelis Libietis/Hunter Reese, 2011; Mikelis Libietis/John Collins, 2012).
TOURNAMENT SITES: On Thursday, tournament matches will be played at Goodfriend Tennis Center, Knoxville Racquet Club and West Hills. Because of current construction at Barksdale Stadium, spectators for matches at Goodfriend Tennis Center are asked to park in Lot 11C located off Volunteer Boulevard and enter the tennis complex off Caledonia Avenue.
