POSTGAME NOTES
Tennessee Tidbits
- Tennessee improved to an all-time record of 828-374-53, which stood in ninth place (in terms of win percentage) among FBS programs entering Saturday's game. On the season, the Volunteers are 8-3 with a 4-3 SEC record.
- The Vols are 459-124-17 in their 95th season at Neyland Stadium.
- Butch Jones raised his record to 29-20 in his fourth year at Tennessee and is 79-47 in his 10th season overall.
- Tennessee is now 11-4 in games played in November under Butch Jones, including eight straight wins in the month.
- With a final score of 63-37, the Vols scored 40-plus points in three consecutive games for the first time since 1995.
- Tennessee played in its fifth game on CBS as the SEC Game of the Week, tied for the most times since 1998. With the win vs. Missouri, UT is 3-2 in those games.
- The Volunteers finish their 2016 regular season with a 6-1 home record, their best mark since going 7-0 in 2007.
- Today's attendance at Neyland Stadium: 101,012. Following Saturday's game, UT averaged 100,967 in attendance for home games in 2016. That home attendance topped 2015's figure of 100,584 and is the highest since 2008 (101,448).
Vol Captains/Coin Toss
- Head coach Butch Jones announced Tennessee's full-season captains at halftime of the 2016 DISH Orange & White Game. The appointed leaders are senior quarterback Joshua Dobbs, redshirt junior tailback Alvin Kamara, senior defensive back Cameron Sutton and senior linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin.
- The Vols have not had full-season designees since 2011, with captains named on a game-by-game basis from 2012-15.
- Missouri won the coin toss and deferred to the second half.
- Tennessee is now 5-8 in coin tosses this season, including 5-6 pregame and 0-2 in overtime.
Senior Day Notes
- Prior to Saturday's game, Tennessee honored 13 seniors, including 11 scholarship seniors, during pregame ceremonies.
- The four-year seniors in the group are the first class to have matriculated entirely during Butch Jones' tenure at Tennessee, including quarterback Joshua Dobbs, linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin and defensive back Cameron Sutton.
- Five of the 13-member senior class have already achieved their bachelor's degrees: Kenny Bynum (Sport Management), Jason Croom (Sociology), Charles Folger (Special Education), LaTroy Lewis (Kinesiology) and Jalen Reeves-Maybin (Sport Management).
Vols-Tigers Notes
- This marked the fifth all-time meeting between Tennessee and Mizzou, with the Vols moving to a 2-3 record.
- Tennessee is now 1-2 against Missouri all-time in games played in Knoxville.
Tennessee Lineup News
- Tennessee started its seventh different offensive line combination this season, with Drew Richmond at left tackle, Jashon Robertson at left guard, Coleman Thomas at center, Venzell Boulware at right guard and Brett Kendrick at right tackle.
- Tight ends Jason Croom and Ethan Wolf started as part of a two tight end offense for the second straight game, as well as the third time this season.
- Tennessee started its ninth different secondary lineup of the year vs. Mizzou.
Offensive Highlights
- Tennessee scored a season-high 63 points vs. Missouri with a combined 609 total offensive yards, including seven offensive touchdowns and one interception return for a TD.
- Tennessee's 63 points were its most since a 63-7 win over Western Kentucky on Sept. 5, 2009.
- The Vols put together 317 total yards offense in the first half vs. the Tigers, their most in the first half of an SEC game this season.
- Senior quarterback Joshua Dobbs finished the day 15-of-22 for 223 yards passing with three touchdowns. He also gained 190 yards rushing on 10 carries with two touchdowns on the ground to amount to five TDs on the day. Dobbs now owns 17 career multi-touchdown passing games including seven this year.
- With 413 total yards accounted for today, Dobbs now has 2.979 total yards this year and joins Peyton Manning as the only two players in school history with at least 2,950 yards of total offense in two different seasons.
- Dobbs set a new single-game high with 190 yards rushing and established his sixth career 100-yard rushing game. He is the only QB in Tennessee history with multiple 100-yard rushing games in two different seasons.
- With the win, Dobbs improves to 22-11 all-time as a starter for UT and 22-8 over his last 30 games.
- Dobbs connected with receiver Jauan Jennings for a 49-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter, marking Jennings' sixth TD reception of the season. Jennings now has touchdown catches in three of his last four games.
- To open the second quarter, Dobbs threw a 57-yard touchdown pass to Josh Malone. By the end of the day, Dobbs moved into sole possession of seventh place all-time for most single-season touchdown passes with 24.
- Malone owns nine receiving touchdowns in 2016, which stands as seventh-most in a single season at Tennessee and ties VFL Justin Hunter (2012) for the most in a single season.
- Dobbs and Jennings later connected for a five-yard touchdown pass to open the second half. With the TD pass, Dobbs established his sixth, three-passing TD game of the season.
- Alvin Kamara rushed for two touchdowns against Missouri. He now has at least one rushing touchdown in four straight games and seven total during the four game stretch.
- Dobbs recorded his second-longest rushing touchdown on the season with a 30-yard score in the third quarter. He later ran for a career-long 70-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, adding to his 29 career rushing touchdown count.
- UT furthered its streak to 26 consecutive games with a rushing TD, dating to 2014. The streak now stands as a school record for most consecutive games with a rushing score, surpassing a previous high streak of 24 games from the 1937-39 seasons.
- The Vols have now scored in 283 straight games, which stood as the fourth-longest active streak in the NCAA entering the game against Missouri.
Defensively Speaking
- Leading the Vols on defense, Micah Abernathy accrued a career-high 12 tackles (seven solo), surpassing his previous career-high 10 tackles from last week's matchup vs. Kentucky.
- In the third quarter, Derek Barnett recorded season sack No. 11 against Mizzou's Drew Lock, as well as the 31st sack of his career. By doing so, Barnett now needs just 1.0 sack to tie Tennessee career sacks leader Reggie White (32.0). He has at least 10 sacks in each of his three seasons for UT, while 28 of his 31 career sacks have come in SEC play.
- Barnett's 11.0 sacks in 2016 are a single-season career high and each of his 11.0 sacks this year have come in SEC play.
- Barnett entered Saturday's game with 49.0 career tackles for loss, including 16.0 this season. With 1.0 vs. Missouri, he needs just 1.0 tackle for loss to tie Reggie White (51.0) for the second-most TFLs in school history.
- Barnett stands as the only player in SEC history to record 10-or-more sacks in three consecutive seasons (2014-16).
- Linebacker Dillon Bates recovered a Tigers fumble in the second quarter, giving the Vols possession on the UT 28-yard line. Bates now has two fumble recoveries on the season.
- Sophomore Micah Abernathy intercepted a pass from Mizzou's Drew Lock to begin the second half. It marked a first career interception for Abernathy.
- Defensive lineman Jonathan Kongbo intercepted a pass from Lock at the UT 41-yard line and returned it 59 yards for a touchdown, the first interception and touchdown of his career and the first defensive touchdown for Tennessee this season.
Special Teams
- Aaron Medley was 9-of-9 on PATs against Missouri. He is now 52-of-52 this season and 149-of-150 for his career.
- Medley was 0-for-1 on field goal attempts against the Tigers, moving to 8-of-12 in 2016 and 49-of-69 over his career with the Volunteers.
- Trevor Daniel averaged 46.2 yards on four punts, booming one 51 yards. He now has 41 career punts of 50-or-more yards, including 19 this year.
Upon Further Review
- Originally ruled a complete catch by UT's Brandon Johnson after being forced out of bounds by a Mizzou defender, the ruling on the field was confirmed to give the Vols a first down at the Mizzou 39-yard line. (UPHELD)
