Kyle Alexander Among NABC Good Works Team Nominees
December 01, 2016 | Men's Basketball
The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and Allstate Insurance Company on Wednesday announced the nominees for the 2017 Allstate NABC Good Works Teams, with Tennessee sophomore Kyle Alexander listed among the NABC nominees.
The Allstate NABC Good Works Team recognizes players at all levels of college basketball whose charitable involvement and altruistic acts stand out amongst all other student-athletes participating in the sport.
Since his freshman year, Alexander has served as one of the men’s basketball program’s representatives on Tennessee Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC), helping to coordinate and conduct several events throughout the year, most of which are service and community-outreach based. This year, he has shouldered additional responsibilities by also serving on the Southeastern Conference’s Basketball Advisory Committee, which meets at the league headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama.
For each of the last two summers, Alexander has volunteered as an instructor (and also event emcee) at the annual Hoops for Hope event in West Knoxville, which benefits the Down Syndrome Awareness Group of East Tennessee.
This past August, he helped local underprivileged children shop for back-to-school clothing at Academy Sports + Outdoors, advising the kids on wise, weather-appropriate selections that would serve them well during the winter months.
And earlier this month, Alexander accepted an invitation to be a guest speaker at the preseason banquet for Knoxville’s Apostolic Christian School basketball team. He addressed the team about the importance of work ethic and commitment to the team concept.
A special voting panel, headlined by former Duke University basketball athlete, two-time NCAA champion and seven-time NBA All-Star Grant Hill, will select a 10-member Good Works Team, comprised of five student-athletes from the NCAA Division I level and five student-athletes from Divisions II, III and the NAIA. The final roster of award recipients will be unveiled in February.
Members of the Allstate NABC Good Works Team will be invited to the 2017 NABC Convention and 2017 NCAA Men’s Final Four in Phoenix, where they will participate in a community service project benefitting the city.
