Tennessee Moves Into Directors' Cup Top 25
April 14, 2016 | General
The University of Tennessee moved into the top 25 of the Learfield Directors' Cup standings in the latest update released on Thursday.
Tennessee comes in at No. 25 in the newest rankings with 416 points, one of three Southeastern Conference programs ranked in the top 25. Texas A&M stands 13th in the rankings with 520 points, while Florida checks in at No. 15 with 509.7 points.
UT moved up from the fall update on the strength of standout performances in men's and women's indoor track and field, men's and women's swimming and diving and women's basketball, which all accumulated points as part of the winter sports update. Men's track and field and women's basketball were each credited with top-five finishes to earn 85 and 73 points, respectively. Men's swimming and women's track and field each earned 72 points for seventh-place finishes.
The 365 points accumulated in the winter season are the most of any SEC school as of the April 14 update.
The Learfield Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 20 sports in Division I -- 10 men's and 10 women's.
Final official standings will be published upon the completion of the spring season. Complete standings and the scoring structure can be found on NACDA's website at www.directorscup.org.
