Tennessee Celebrates National Student-Athlete Day
April 05, 2016 | General
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee will honor and celebrate its student-athletes and their accomplishments on Wednesday as part of National Student-Athlete Day.
As part of the celebration, UTSports.com will highlight stories that profiled our student-athletes and their stories on the field, in the classroom and in the community. The selected stories will be displayed prominently on each sport's page throughout the day and will rotate on the front page as the day goes on.
"National Student-Athlete Day honors student-athletes for their accomplishments in academics, athletics, and for their contributions to the community," said Kayla Smith, Tennessee NCAA CHAMPS Life Skills director. "Our goal is to create a day of fun where we celebrate our student-athletes for the many great things they do every day."
On campus, there will be activities for the student-athletes and special meals served in Smokey's Sports Grill.
"We'll host a special breakfast to get the day started, followed by some trivia and games via social media," Smith said. "Then, we'll greet everyone for lunch where, for the first time in Smokey's, we'll have an ice cream sundae bar and cake for dessert!
Created by the National Consortium for Academics and Sports in 1987, National Student-Athlete Day is celebrated annually on April 6th. National Student-Athlete Day was designed to honor the outstanding achievements of high school and college student-athletes who have achieved excellence in academics and athletics, while having made significant contributions to their schools and communities.
