Vols Land Five Players on NFCA All-Southeast Region Teams

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee softball tied a program record with five players earning NFCA All-Southeast Region honors as announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association today.
Senior pitcher/utility player Rainey Gaffin was named a first-team all-region selection while Meghan Gregg, Lexi Overstreet, Megan Geer and Brooke Vines earned all-region honors for the first time in their careers after being named to the All-Southeast Region third team. The Vols have now had 62 total NFCA All-Region selections in program history and 32 players who have earned the distinction.
Gaffin was named to the all-region team for the second straight season after setting career highs with 38 RBIs and five home runs while also going 9-3 in the circle with a 2.32 ERA. The Thornton, Colo., native is among the team's offensive leaders in batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, RBIs, doubles, triples, home runs and total bases. Gaffin also leads the team and is tied for 15th nationally with five saves this season. She was also an All-SEC second-team pick and an SEC All-Defensive team selection this season.
Gregg has been one of the Vols most consistent offensive threats this season, posting career highs with 58 RBIs, 49 runs, 15 doubles, 14 stolen bases and 35 walks. She currently leads the team with a .391 batting average, 61 hits and a .505 on-base percentage. The Williamson, Ga., native has also blasted 10 home runs and was named an All-SEC first-team selection last week. This marks the first time in her career that she has earned NFCA All-Region honors.
Overstreet has had a breakout senior campaign for the Big Orange, setting career highs in pretty much every offensive category while serving as the Vols' primary catcher this year. The Suwanee, Ga., native leads the team with 12 home runs and a .697 slugging percentage. She also ranks second on the team with 56 RBIs and set a Tennessee single-season record for stolen bases by a catcher with 11. This is the first time Overstreet has garnered NFCA All-Region honors in her career.
This is also the first time earning all-region honors for Geer, who has proven to be one of the Vols' most versatile players this season, seeing significant time at center field and third base as well as hitting in the leadoff spot and the middle of the order. The junior leads the team with 59 runs and ranks 20th nationally with 1.07 runs per game. The native of Los Alamitos, Calif., has set career highs with in batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, runs, RBIs and steals this season.
Rounding out the group is Vines, who has made a big splash for the Orange and White as a freshman. She is batting .354 on the year, leads UT with four triples and is tied for second on the team with 57 hits. Vines is also ranks second on the team with 18 stolen bases. The speedy outfielder from Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., leads all freshmen on the team with 31 RBIs, two homers and a .460 slugging percentage.

The NFCA All-Region awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with first, second and third teams selected for each region. The all-region teams were voted on by NFCA member coaches from each respective region, and all the honorees now become eligible for selection to one of three 2016 NFCA Division I All-America teams.
The 2016 NFCA Division I All-America teams will be announced at approximately 5 p.m. ET on Wednesday, June 1, via NFCA.org.
