July 22, 2016 | General
Tennessee native Jonathan Bowling has joined the UT Athletic Department as associate athletic director for football compliance and administration. In addition to Bowling’s football duties, he also will oversee compliance for athletic dining, nutrition and sport science.
Bowling, who is licensed to practice law in Tennessee, was born in Sewanee and raised in Tullahoma.
“I’m excited to return to Tennessee,” Bowling said. “I look forward to working with coach Jones and the football program on a daily basis, as well as impacting all our student-athletes as we continue to enhance our sports performance and athletic applied sciences program.”
Bowling has spent his entire collegiate and professional career in the Southeastern Conference. He received a degree in Political Science from Auburn in 2001 before completing both a master’s degree and juris doctorate degree from Alabama in 2006 and 2004, respectively.
He has worked in the Alabama athletic department since 2004, rising to executive staff level as Associate AD for Compliance in 2011. During his five years overseeing Alabama’s compliance operation, the school won eight national championships across four sports.
He has served as a member of the NCAA Division I Amateurism Fact-Finding Committee and as a member of the state of Alabama’s Athlete Agents Commission. And at the 2015 National Association for Athletics Compliance (NAAC) Seminar, Bowling was a facilitator for a discussion on high-profile student-athlete compliance.
Bowling and wife, Jackie, have four children. His mother, Janice Bowling, serves in the Tennessee State Legislature as a Senator for the 16th District.
