Serrano Guevara, Strobach To Compete In Latin America Amateur

PANAMA CITY, Panama -- Tennessee men's golf senior Juan Carlos Serrano Guevara and sophomore Felipe Strobach will compete in the 2017 Latin America Amateur Championship, which runs Jan. 12-15 at Club de Golf de Panama in Panama City, Panama.
Thursday's first round and Friday's second round will feature an ESPN2 broadcast from 3 p.m. ET to 5 p.m. ET. The third round on Saturday will be shown on ESPNews from 1 p.m. ET to 3 p.m. ET and Sunday's final round will have an ESPN broadcast from 1 p.m. ET to 3 p.m. ET.
Serrano Guevara will represent Mexico and start from the 10th tee at 8:21 a.m. ET. Strobach, who is playing for Peru, will start on the front nine at 12:40 p.m. ET. Both players competed in the 2016 Latin America Amateur at Casa De Campo in the Dominican Republic. Serrano Guevara tied for 16th at 5-over, posting the lowest score of the eight players representing Mexico. He carded even-par 72 in the first and second rounds and bounced back from a third-round 78 with a 1-under 71 in the final 18 holes. Strobach tied for 33rd at 11-over, which was the second best score among the six Peruvians. Strobach enjoyed a hot start last year with a 1-under 71 in the opening round.
The champion of the 2017 Latin America Amateur Championship will receive
- An invitation to compete in the 2017 Masters Tournament
- An exemption into The 2017 Amateur Championship, conducted by The R&A
- An exemption into the 2017 U.S. Amateur Championship and any other USGA amateur championship for which he is eligible
The champion and runner(s)-up will receive the following, beginning in 2017:
- An exemption into Open Qualifying Series – Final Qualifying, held in July in the United Kingdom, with an opportunity to earn a place in The 146th Open Championship at Royal Birkdale
- An exemption into final stage qualifying for the U.S. Open with an opportunity to earn a place in the 2017 U.S. Open at Erin Hills
