UT announces promotion of Moats

The University of Tennessee Athletics Department announced Tuesday the promotion of Thomas Moats to Assistant Athletics Director for Information Technology. Moats has been a member of UT's full-time staff for the past nine years, but has worked in IT support and administration for 25 years.
Moats has served as the Director of Information Technology Services at Tennessee since 2010. In his new role, Moats will plan, implement and direct the information technology strategy for the Athletic Department and manage the Athletics IT Support department. The Lenoir City, Tennessee, native will also work with stakeholders in each department and sport to evaluate and improve business processes through the use of technology.
The Athletics IT department provides support to all 20 athletic teams and 16 athletic facilities, including the Thornton Athletics Student Life Center and the labs used by the student-athletes. Moats' department oversees the use of more than 500 computers, 400 mobile devices, five servers and more than 230 employees.
Moats earned his bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Lee College in 1994. He lives in Lenoir City with his wife, Heather, and their sons, Thomas and Kenton.
