KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Led by a season-best platform performance Thursday by junior Liam Stone, the Vols concluded the Tennessee Diving Invitational at Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center.
Stone took seventh with score of 308.35, just a point off his career best and his first 300-point platform score of the season.
Sophomore Nick Rusek was 13th with a score of 287.35 and senior Michael Howell followed in 14th with 276.00.
Counting Toward South Carolina: Preliminary results from the 1-meter and 3-meter diving this week will count toward Tennessee's dual meet at South Carolina on Friday.
Liam Stone earned a pair of first-place finishes for the Vols heading into the dual meet, winning the 1-meter (345.30) and 3-meter (365.40) over the South Carolina divers. Nick Rusek added a second-place finish on 1-meter (294.00).
Julia Vincent gave South Carolina two wins on the women's side, posting 337.65 on 3-meter and 299.45 on 1-meter. Tennessee sophomore Rachel Rubadue was second in both.
Comments from Tennessee Diving Coach Dave Parrington: "There were some positive things but there are some things we need to build on. When you come back from the holidays, the higher up you go, the more the layoff effects your performance. That's the case with tower. They all did some good things but they all did things that showed they had a layoff.
"I was really pleased with Liam's first three dives. Nick was a mixed bag. Michael had a little bit of a letdown from his best performance at the Auburn meet to end the fall."
