November 16, 2017 | Football
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee redshirt junior specialist Parker Henry collected 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-District honors for the second straight year on Thursday. The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performance on the field and in the classroom.
Henry was selected to the District 3 team by the College Sports Information Directors of America and is now eligible to receive Academic All-America Team accolades. Last season, Tennessee football placed three student-athletes, including Henry, on the All-District team. Â
The Hendersonville, Tennessee, native is the third Volunteer to earn the recognition two times and the first since Daniel Lincoln was named to the All-District team in 2007 and 2009. Henry is only the second Tennessee player to receive the honor in back-to-back seasons, becoming the first Vol to accomplish the feat since Peyton Manning during the 1996 and 1997 campaigns.
In 2017, Henry appeared in nine games and has served as the Vols' primary holder for the second consecutive season. Henry, who played both quarterback and defensive back at Beech Senior High School, boasts a 4.0 cumulative GPA in finance and was selected to the SEC Academic Honor Roll in 2015 and 2016.
Student-athletes eligible for Academic All-District status are those holding a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale). Nominees must also have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution and have completed at least one calendar year at the institution.
