INDIANAPOLIS -- Freshman Meghan Small and sophomore Madeline Banic scored for points for Tennessee on Thursday at the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships.
In the finals, Small dropped nearly two seconds off her morning preliminary time, winning the consolation heat of the 200-yard individual medley in 1 minute, 53.91 seconds to earn her first career honorable mention All-America honors.
Banic finished 15th overall in the 50 freestyle in 22.00.
Both UT swimmers had won SEC titles in those events at the SEC Championships last month.
Tennessee's 200 freestyle relay team of Banic, Kira Toussaint, Alex Cleveland and Erika Brown initially placed third in the consolation final but were disqualified.
After two days of the meet, Tennessee is 24th in the team standings with 11 points. Stanford leads with 213 points.
In diving, sophomore Rachel Rubadue finished 23rd with 259.55 points.
"She finished 23rd in an incredibly deep and tight competition," Tennessee diving coach Dave Parrington said. "With two dives to go, she was sitting in 13th. She didn't panic and stayed in contact with the leaders. She had a good mindset, and I think it sets her up well for the rest of the meet."
The championships continue Friday with the 400 IM, the 100 butterfly, the 200 freestyle, the 100 breaststroke, the 100 backstroke, the 200 medley relay and 3-meter diving.
