Race Central: San Diego Crew Classic

KNOXVILLE, TENN. -- The Tennessee Rowing team will compete in the San Diego Crew Classic on Saturday and Sunday at Mission Bay in San Diego, Cali.
Tennessee is sending four boats to the competition. The Vols will start the day with the 1V8+ in Heat B of the Women's Collegiate Varsity 8+ Cal Cup at 8 a.m. PT. They will face off against Loyola Marymount, George Washington, St. Joseph's, Saint Mary's and Santa Clara.
At 8:56 a.m. PT Tennessee's 1V4+ will hit the course, taking on the University of Texas at Austin, San Diego, Southern Methodist and UC Santa Barbara in Heat A of the Karen Plumleigh Cortney Cup.
The Vols' 2V8+ will wrap up the day for Tennessee at 9:44 a.m. PT in Heat A of the Collegiate 2V8+ Jackie Ann Stitt Hungness Division. They will square off against the University of Texas at Austin, San Diego, Saint Mary's and Southern Methodist.
The competition will continue on Sunday with the Petite and Grand Finals for each of the three races. In addition, Tennessee's 2V4+ will compete in the finals only Collegiate 4+ B event at 12:04 p.m. PT. They will match up against USC, UCLA, Sacramento State, SDSU, Southern Methodist and UC Santa Barbara.
This marks the eighth time overall and the third consecutive season Tennessee has competed in the San Diego Crew Classic. Last year the Vols' 1V8+ took second in the Grand Finals while the 1V4+ and 2V8+ claimed first and third respectively in their Petite Finals.
