OKLAHOMA CITY -- Meghan Gregg was named to the 2017 NFCA Division I All-America First Team on Wednesday afternoon by the National Fastpitch Coaches' Association, becoming the 14th Tennessee player to earn All-America honors.
In total, 55 student-athletes from 35 different schools were represented on the NFCA All-America teams. The Southeastern Conference had the most selections with 14, while the Pac-12 came in second with 10 and the Big 12 was third with nine.
Tennessee has now had at least one player earn NFCA All-America recognition in each of the past 14 seasons and has had 33 total selections in program history. Gregg was selected as the first team's at-large shortstop and is making her first appearance on an NFCA All-America team after putting up historic numbers during her junior season on Rocky Top. She is the 11th Vol softball player to be named a first-team All-American and the first since Madison Shipman in 2014.
Gregg's 79 RBIs broke the UT single-season record of 77 that was set by Bridget Jackson in 1996 and tied by Kristi Durant in 2005. She was also a top-three finalist for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award, becoming just the fourth player in program history to do so.
The Williamson, Ga., native led the Volunteers and set career highs in batting average (.437), hits (73), doubles (18), home runs (15), RBIs (79), slugging percentage (.838), on-base percentage (.557) and total bases (140).
Earlier this season, Gregg became the fifth player in program history to win SEC Player of the Year honors. The junior shortstop was also named a CoSIDA Academic All-American this season and ranks among the top-15 players nationally in a handful of offensive categories. Most notably, Gregg ranks second in the country in RBIs, seventh in on-base percentage, 11th in batting average, 12th in slugging percentage, 13th in doubles, and tied for eighth in total bases.
